Well, a while ago a Survivor superfan decided to apply media theory and statistical analysis to their favourite television show to attempt to determine the winner of the season based on the editing patterns. What has developed is a thriving online fan community of edgers who season after season attempt to predict the Survivor winner. Edgic is a combination of the words editing + logic and is basically a methodology used to look at the editing patterns found in reality shows to look for clues that will eventually point us to the winner.

After hearing about this fan engagement community at the First Forum Cinema & Media Studies Graduate Conference in October 2016 my friends and I were immediately intrigued by the idea of analyzing editing patterns to predict the winner of a reality show. I began to wonder if Edgic could be applied to any of my favorite shows? (I must confess, while my father is still a loyal Survivor viewer, I probably haven’t watched since the Rob and Amber days in the early 2000s). Being the Graduate Student nerds that we are, we immediately began researching this idea to see if it would be possible to translate the ideas and practices found in Survivor Edgic to a new series. This is our attempt to apply Edgic to The Bachelor!
